Shisatsu sessions are available Monday afternoons and evenings.
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu (shee – ah’ – tzoo) is a Japanese word meaning “finger pressure”.
It is a form of Asian bodywork based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, where illness is thought to result from the imbalances in the natural flow of energy or qi (pronounced “chee”) through the body.
Shiatsu has been proven beneficial in alleviating symptoms associated with a wide range of ailments, including:
- joint pain
- muscular tension
- digestive disorders
What Can I Expect During a Treatment?
Shiatsu treatments are traditionally given on a futon on the floor. However, a low massage table or chair may be used based upon the needs of the client. Practitioners apply finger and palm pressure to energetic pathways, called meridians, to improve the flow of qi.
With Shiatsu you remain fully clothed during the treatment, no oils or creams are applied. A receiver should wear loose, comfortable clothing and socks, preferably cotton.
At the beginning of a session, the practitioner evaluates the client to determine patterns of imbalance that may be present, and then designs a treatment plan, giving the client the most therapeutic benefit according to their individual needs.
Why try Shiatsu?
Some common effects of Shiatsu include:
- Pain relief or reduction
- Deep relaxation and calm
- Improved energy and concentration
- Deeper, more restful sleep
- Increased flexibility
